Emma, wow

Emma and I went on a road trip one time, with three other dolls, two of which were destined to be given away to family.  As the trip wore on, Emma was there to support me and she just looked so adorable that I knew I had to keep her instead of letting her go to family.  In the end, though it pained me to give away one of my Lenora dolls, I ended up giving away Audrey and Lenora facemolds instead of her.

She is marked "AL I-P(2)" on her scalp, which gives her the collector name Emma and that is what I call her by.  The girl that I have has 1997 neck date and tan fabric body with a 2007 tag attached.

I believe that someone has loved on this doll before, because she is signed in yellow pencil or marker behind her left ear, some kind of writing that says L8W or perhaps L8VD?  Also she has some glitter residue on her so apparently has been to some kind of party.

The top of her scalp is further marked up with about 3 lines of pencil markings.  Interestingly I own 2 dolls with the Emma facemold, and both of them are characterized by these pencil markings, that to the best of my knowledge would indicate something, but I don't know what.  If you have any ideas, please let me know.

Her eyes might be fading a little bit, because there are tints of red and pink on them, but in this case, it seems to enhance the color, so I wouldn't want to change her eyes.  Her wig came off another My Twinn doll, and I glued it on with hot glue, then cut the bangs shorter to reveal more of her forehead.  Cutting the bangs was a project that took place over 2-3 weeks, as I kept noticing where they were a bit too long and I had to make small snips over time.  This wig is not super smooth or straight like the one on GiGi; its a little frazzled but it looks really good that way.  The frazzle gives it volume.

Lovely, friendly Emma

Her eyebrows have been touched up by me with brown colored pencil.

I worked on her outfit quite a bit.  It started out with the brown t-shirt dress custom made by Carole's doll clothes.  The cut of the dress with the low waistline seems to be very flattering on her.

Can I mention that My Twinn 23 dolls seem to enjoy standing on any kind of platform shoes??  It elongates their legs and makes them feel taller plus they don't worry about breaking an ankle.  So I set about making what I call the custom brown Dr. Martens platform ankle shoes.

This pair of shoes was assembled in stages, and the first part of the project involved the black leather from an old pair of Dr. Martens sandals.  Once the leather upper had been removed from the old sandals, I found that it could be wrapped around the ankle and secured with Velcro, then folded around to make the shoe bed that is also made of the black leather.  The assembly is hot-glued together.

Later on came the platform part.  I used the foam from 4 Mr. Clean erasers, cutting it into the shoe shape and stacking 2 of them on top of each other.  This was glued and then covered with black pantyhose that I sewed closed with black thread.

Finally the brown strips of leather from other salvaged sandals were added to facilitate the transition from the leather to the platform part, and I fashioned the bottom of the shoe to look like the bottoms of my own Dr. Marten Blair sandals.  The material used on the bottom is black foam that was recovered from some packing material.  Also the black leather toe straps were added, because I felt that too much of the foot looked exposed without them.

The overall result is a chunky sandal for My Twinn 23 dolls, and Emma likes them!
